Community Planning
Community development is guided by Summerland’s Official Community Plan and
Zoning Bylaw. These documents describe where different land uses in Summerland
will be located.
Our planning staff will be happy to help you determine what land use zone you
are in and what uses are permitted in your zone. Applications to change land
use zones or amend the Official Community Plan are processed through our
office. Good community planning protects our natural environment, promotes
efficient land use and tries to follow “smart growth” principles. Together we
can make Summerland a better place to live for us and our future generations.
BENTLEY ROAD INDUSTRIAL PARK PLANNING STUDY
The recent conditional exclusion of 7.2 hectares of
land from the ALR, for industrial purposes, is a
significant expansion to the Bentley Road Industrial
Park. Existing planning tools do not provide a
vision for the future of this area. Therefore, the
District of Summerland has initiated the Bentley
Road Industrial Park Planning Study to
establish a vision and redevelopment guidelines. The
planning process includes the following goals:
- Having meaningful public involvement;
- Reinforcing the area as an economic driver
and environmentally sustainable part of
Summerland; and
-
Developing a Plan that is flexible enough to
accommodate various scenarios in a phased
development strategy.
